Well, butter my biscuits, what a glorious morning for a jaunt! The weather was playing nice, all sunshine and gentle breezes, practically begging me to lace up my sneakers and hit the pavement. Started around 8 AM, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed (or at least, trying to be).
First stop, it looks like my walk took me near St. James Park. It's so green and inviting in the morning, and a little known fact is that it used to be the site of Toronto's first post office! Then I seemed to have wandered near the Hockey Hall of Fame. Did you know the original Stanley Cup was only about seven inches tall? After this spot, my walk led me closer to Yonge-Dundas Square. It is a famous location for public events, and is sometimes called "Toronto's Times Square," how fancy!
Afterwards, my walk seemed to lead towards Allan Gardens. I love the conservatory there, and it's worth noting that the Palm House is one of the oldest cast-iron and glass buildings still standing in Canada. The walk ended near Riverdale Farm, known for its barns from the 19th century. It's a great place to get your city-meets-country fix without actually leaving town.
I finished up around 10 AM, feeling thoroughly invigorated. My pace was a leisurely saunter at first, with lots of looking around, but I picked it up considerably towards the end. Not bad for a casual Saturday morning stroll!
Next time, I think I'll explore more of the trails along the Don River. I hear it's a fantastic spot for birdwatching, and who knows what other quirky adventures await? Until then, happy trails!
